Nogales,
Mexico is located on the Arizona-Mexico border, about a 1
hour drive south of Tucson, Arizona. The population is
fast growing at approximately 400,000. The weather is
extreme. There are below freezing temperatures during the winter
and many days above 100 degrees in the summer. It's a very hilly
city. Many of the streets, away from downtown, are unpaved.
Water runs to most neighborhoods for a few hours each day but the water
is not drinkable. Drinkable water must be purchased in large
containers.
A majority of our
clients, and the population of Nogales, came from
other parts of the country in search of work at the US factories
located in Mexico called maquilas. Pay at
maquilas is typically 50 pasos (about $5) per day and people are
generally required to work 6 days per week.

Mexico is located across the border from El Paso, Texas. Cuidad
Juarez is a very large city with a population of about 2 million and
growing.
